I placed a little tissue with her urine on it, below the grate and she understood instantly. Just be cautious whenever you take it apart to thoroughly clean it. My dog doesnt understand and anytime she see’s the grate she will hop on it and use it. Really it could be any grate, a couple of weeks ago I had a baby gate laying about the ground in my living room and she hopped onto it and tinkled all over it. I realized later that she understands the grate is really a location for her to wee. I couldn’t get onto her for it.
